A 38-year-old commercial tricyclist, Cypria Alo, was on Tuesday docked before an Igbosere magistrate’s court, Lagos, for allegedly tearing the uniform of a traffic regulation officer.
Alo, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of assault and reckless driving.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Abbas Abayomi, told the court that the accused committed the alleged offences on August 30, 2018 at 5.30pm on the Lekki/Epe expressway, VGC traffic light junction, Lagos.
Abayomi said that the accused, allegedly operating an unregistered commercial tricycle, drove it on a highway in a reckless manner without any regard to other road users.
The prosecutor said the accused unlawfully assaulted the complainant, Sgt. Mathew Alake, by inflicting an injury on him and tearing his uniform when Alake stopped him from flouting the traffic law.
Alo accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Y. O. Aro-Lambo granted the accused N500,000 bail, with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned until October 11, 2018 for mention.
