Asaolu, in company of the Commissioner for Information, Mr Ranti Akerele, in a press briefing at Governor’s Office, Akure said the shops and structures which the government tractors removed last week were illegal.

He said, “no civilized society in principle allows shanties and illegal structures in Government Reserve Areas (GRAs).

“The sheds along Alagbaka and Fiwasaye areas should not have been there. It is unfortunate that the past government allowed the illegality.” While stressing that there was no going back on their action, Asaolu explained that the government had issued a-three month quit notice to the shop owners apart from the announcements on both TV and radio.

Akerele debunked insinuations that the present administration had embarked on a demolition exercise, stressing that the government only removed shanties and illegal structures from the public place

He said traders would relocate to the neighbourhood markets which are in the last stage of completion, adding that about 240 shops had been constructed at a neighbourhood market at NEPA area to take traders in the areas.

According to him, the standard practice was a -seven day quit notice but the government gave three months just because of the empathy it has for the people

Akerele said the removal of shops and Illegal structures was a determination of the government to carry out the mandate of the people.
