The Adamawa State government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area following renewed clashes between Chobo and Bachawa communities.
In a statement on Sunday, Mr Humwashi Wonosikou, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, said the government would not allow disturbances caused by miscreants to threaten peace and harmony in the state.
“Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area with immediate effect. This follows renewed violent attacks and breaches of peace in some communities within the area,” the statement said.
It added that security agencies have been directed to enforce the curfew strictly, which will remain in place until further notice.

The government urged residents to comply and provide useful information to security agencies to ensure peaceful coexistence.
The statement warned that anyone found violating the curfew would be arrested and prosecuted, emphasising the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
The governor appealed for cooperation from residents to restore normalcy.
Earlier, the spokesperson of the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the violence but said casualties were yet to be verified at the time of filing this report.
Lamurde has been a flashpoint for communal attacks, with disagreements linked either to lingering farmland disputes or demands by the Chobo community for a separate traditional chieftaincy from the Bachawa council.
