Communities form watchdog corps to curb crimes in Bauchi

Nuru said that the group noted that the crude approach to crime prevention in the past did not yield any meaningful result adding that intelligence gathering helped a lot in tackling the incessant spate of insecurity in Nigeria.

Some rural communities in Bauchi State have formed volunteer community watchdog corps to assist conventional security agencies in curbing crimes in their localities in the state.

The Director-General, Peace and Conflict Resolution, Comrade Umar Nuru who disclosed this while speaking at a training organised for volunteer youths across 20 Bauchi local government areas Thursday, said that the initiative was also to help in resolving minor conflicts between families or communities.

Umar said that Commissioner of Police in Bauchi, Director State Security Service, Civil Defence Corps and others have shown interest in partnering with volunteer groups in complementing the efforts of the government in waging a crusade for peace advocacy, crime control and crime related issues.
