Community leaders in Essien Udim LGA of Akwa Ibom State have commended the police in the state for its recent successes in tackling crime.

The leaders in Midim Atan, Midim Nto Udo, Midim Ikot Ubo, Ikot Inyang Udo and Ikot Akpan villages said they were impressed with the drastic reduction in the activities of notorious Akwa Marine cult group and other criminals that had paralysed business and economic activities in the past few months.

Speaking yesterday in Uyo during a visit to the Commissioner of Police, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, the community leaders, however called on the police to intensify efforts to arrest other criminal elements still operating in the area and promised to cooperate with the police in the effort to restore peace to their areas.  Responding, CP Ogunjemilusi used the occasion to share security tips with the community leaders. He also said his office was open at all times to receive reliable information on criminal elements and that sources of such information would be protected.
