Residents of Unguwar Gaya community in Nassarawa local government area of Kano state have raised alarm over what they discribed as nuisance caused by 3-Star event centre located amidst the community.
The residents alleged that, the centre had been turned into a hub of several illegal activities that negate Islamic religion and Hausa culture resectively.
Kano Chronicle investigation revealed that owner of centre Alhaji Auwalu Danladi, a son of a prominent politician in Jigawa state, Alhaji Danladi Sankara had threatened to deal with the any member of the community that complain about the activities of the centre.
A resident of the affected community, Malam Muhammad Alhassan Masko, said activities of the centre had caused alot of displeasure among the residents of the area.
He said, “Under aged and innocent children are allowed to conduct all forms of heinous activities at the centre including drug abuse and other social vices.
“Whenever the centre is having an event, we can hardly sleep on that day. As if that is not enough we started noticing suspicious activities within the centre involving our children.The centre makes it free for girls to get access to it while boys pay N400.
“When we cannot endure it anymore we raised the issue with our village head who wrote to Kano state Censorship Board for clarification on the legality of the centre’s operations, but up till this time, the board did not respond to our request.”
Another resident of the area, Malam Uba Badamasi Badawa told Kano Chronicle that ever since the event centre started operation in the area, its activities became a source of worry to them.
Badawa said their main concern was the uncultured activities taking place at the centre.
“Our children’s morality is at stake with the way and manner the centre is conducting its activities. As parents we must resist the activities taking place at the centre because we cannot just fold our arms watching their future being distroyed,” he said.
Also commenting, Alhaji Baba Shu’aibu, said they would continue to fight for their rights till justice prevailed, adding that “We have concluded plans to lodge our complaints before the Emir of Kano and other relevant authorities.”
For Mrs Abigail John Ogah, the activities being conducted at the centre were causing serious discomfort to the residents of the area, saying, “If left unchecked, the centre may turn to something else in the future. My fear is that the kind of activities taking place there may degenerate to chaos one day.”
Kano Chronicle gathered that, the Village Head of the area, Malam Halliru Maigida was detained for two days after the community protested over the activities of the centre.
“We are not taking the law into our hands, what we want is for the operators of this centre to respect the law, norms and values of our community. I was detained for two days for speaking on behalf of my people. I was also accused of sending a text message to the father of the proprietor of the centre threatening to kidnap his children which is not true.
“We have taken all measures under the law to address the situation. As a community leader, I will never encourage my people to take law into their hands. We want justice to be done to our people as we cannot fold our arms and watch our young children derailed,” Maigida said.
It was gathered that the centre was closed for some days, but sources in the community told our reporter that activities resumed at the centre, despite its closure by Kano state Censorship Board.
When contacted, the Executive Director of the board, Malam Isma’ila Na’abba Afakallah, confirmed that the board had received the community’s complaints on the activities of the event centre and tried
to mediate but when the efforts failed, the centre was closed down by the board for peace to prevail.
“When we figured out that there are abnormalities in the conduct of the centre, we were left with no option than to shutdown the centre.
So, as far as the board is concerned, the centre is closed down,” Afakallah said.
Similarly, Kano state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Magaji Musa Majiya stated that, the village head of the area was invited by the police based on an alleged threat SMS message sent to the event centre’s proprietor.
He added that, the event centre had fulfilled the requirements for operation and the police had addressed the issue of public nuisance being caused by the centre.
