Community seeks FG support on abandoned dam

Communities of Biu Local Government Area of Borno State have appealed to the federal government to complete the abandoned Biu dam project which was awarded 37 years ago
A traditional ruler in Biu Emirate, rtd Lt-Col Bashir Betara Aliyu, who made the appeal urged the federal government to hasten and complete the work on the dam project.
Bashir said that the first phase of the project was awarded to LeeFakino in 1979 and recently re-awarded to Nalando company but has remained  abandoned.
He alleged that Nalando company belonged to former Vice President Namadi Sambo and that the contract was awarded to him before he became vice president of Nigeria.
Bashir also alleged that the company abandoned the project and moved some of the pipes and other equipment to Zaria.
He said: “We have to make noise in the media before some of the pipes were returned. You can see them lying there on the road. We want to know how much he was paid, because we learnt that Borno State government has paid its counterpart funding.”
He said the challenges in Biu were not only insecurity but also include water problem adding that if nothing was done it would force the people to migrate elsewhere in search of water.
