Community seeks training of youths on petroleum industry skills

Stakeholders have demanded the Senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Shehu Buba Umar, to train youths on various skills and education associated with the petrolatum industry to enable them to participate in the oil industry at the Kolmani Oil wells located in Bauchi State.

The stakeholders, drawn from the business community, traditional rulers, politicians, and academia, among others, from seven LGAs of Alkaleri, Kirfi, Bauchi, Toro, Tafawa Balewa, Bogoro and Dass, made the plea during an interactive meeting organized by the senator.

Speaking at the meeting, a former Attorney General of the State, Barrister Ibrahim Umar, said the discovery of crude, the local population could only benefit through participation in the activities of the industry.

“Petroleum has numerous aspects about it, besides refining, there is the aspect of gas, there is the maintenance of the machinery, there is aspect of pipelines, there is aspect of transportation, there is aspect of security, there are electrical and many other aspects.

“The only way the local population can benefit immensely is through the training of its youth to be able to partake in the relevant areas that affect directly these industries. That is why we are saying that the local population in the area, particularly in Bauchi South, we should concentrate on making sure that our children have the relevant education, and relevant skills to be able to partake in these industries.”

In his response, Umar assured them of educational support and various vocational skills to prepare the youth to participate in the oil industry.

He promised to facilitate a critical stakeholders’ summit compromising political office holders, religious and traditional leaders among others to fashion out a comprehensive approach to the issues of education and youth empowerment of southern Bauchi.
