A mining company, Laurium Mining Company Ltd, has awarded scholarship to students of three schools in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State.
The beneficiaries are from Government Secondary School in Sho community of Ropp District, Islamic Comprehensive Secondary School, Exland and Alibras Unity Academy, Old Kwork Road.
The scholarship is part of the Community Development Agreement (CDA) signed between the company and the community in April this year.
The Chairman of Mineral Resources and Environmental Management Committee (MIREMCO), Plateau State District, Senator Davou Zang, thanked the company and urged the students to use the stipends judiciously.
The National President of Sho Development Association, Pam Samson, said the community would reciprocate the gesture by cooperating with the company in their activities.
The Managing Director of the company said: “Today is a special day because we are implementing part of the provisions of our Community Development Agreement. It is a very fair agreement and we are determined to implement it to the letter. In some months from now, we hope to be commissioning your boreholes.
Representatives of the students, Audu Yohanna and Peace Markus, Jabir Mohammed Abdulkareem and Nasiru Dauda Mohammed thanked the company for the scholarship.
