Fema told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu on Friday that the project, had reached about 70 per cent completion before it was abandoned.

“We are in dire need of the hall to groom our youths in indoor sports like badminton, table tennis, judo and volleyball.

“The project is being undertaken by the NSC and has since been abandoned for a long time now.

“We had to effect some repairs when part of the roof was blown off by a windstorm.

“Now, another part has been blown off again. I have drawn the attention of the authorities concerned thrice and they promised that something will be done. We are still waiting,’’ said Fema.

The chairman said that but for the effort of his commission in carrying out minor repairs, the damage caused by delays in completion of the project could have been enormous.

In an interview, the NSC Coordinator for Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, Chindo Aliyu, said the project had not been abandoned and expressed optimism that it would soon be completed.

“The project was captured in the 2010 budget and we are hopeful that it would be completed soon,’’ he said.
