A group of condemned armed robbers, yesterday, attacked journalists in court premises after a state high court in Yola sentenced eight of them to death by hanging.

The presiding judge, Justice Abdulaziz Waziri, who found the convicts guilty on nine count charge, said presentations by counsels and witnesses proved that the suspects committed the crime.

The eight convicts were Aliyu Ardo, Sadiq Mijinyawa, Shaibu Abubakar, and Sani Musa, Kabiru Abdullahi, Saidu Abubakar, Umar Mohammed and Sanusi Ibrahim

Our reporter observed that as soon as the hand-cuffed convicts stepped out of the court room, they pounced on two camera men at the entrance of the court room, hitting them and throwing pebbles at them. The video journalists from the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) and Adamawa State Television (ATV) were eventually rescued by prison security personnel.

The Adamawa State Controller of Prisons, Umar Audu, expressed shock over the incident which he said was unprecedented, adding that 10 security personnel had accompanied the convicts to the court to ensure security. He said the convicts had shown remorse for their violent action after they were returned to prison custody.
