This was the conclusion of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) at the end of its National Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Seminar in Abuja last week.
The seminar with the theme: Asset Declaration as a Veritable Anti-corruption Strategy suggested hiring of professional valuers to carry out professional and periodic valuation of declared assets of public servants with viewing of exposing discrepancies.
It called for enactment of a law that will make it mandatory for public servants to publicly declare their assets.
Courts were advised not to tarry in granting applications made to them by citizens demanding to know the declared assets of public servants.
Disclosure of assets provides a complete picture of a public officer’s financial situation and this helps to detect theft.
