Nigeria’s representative at the CAF Confederation Cup, Enyimba FC are waiting for the decision from the organisers if the today’s playoff match against Al Ittihad of Libya will hold as scheduled.
According to CAF fixture as stated on its website, the match is scheduled to hold today at the Stade Mustapha Ben Jannet – Monastir in Tunisia but the team is still in Morocco as at press time.
It is however expected CAF will announce a new date and venue for the game.
It will be recalled that the Nigerian side were left stranded at the Muhammed V International Airport in Casablanca, Morocco for two days after the immigration officers refused to allow the team fly to Tunisia venue of the game demanding the eight-time Nigerian champions produce their COVID-19 vaccination cards before they are granted entry into Tunisia.
In a chat with the club’s media officer, Zazi Bariza Samuel confirmed the team have been rescued and are currently in a hotel in Morocco with the club awaiting CAF decision on the game if the game will go on as scheduled.
“The NFF came to our rescue and we are in a hotel in Morrocco now. We are waiting for CAF to decide if the game will still go on as planned tomorrow (today). There should be a decision tonight, I believe,” he emphasized.
In an earlier statement, Bariza said the team had already secured Libyan visas before later scooping that the game would be played in Tunisia few days before the match.
“Efforts were made by the club and the Nigerian embassy in Tunisia to get special waivers proved abortive. The only other available option is to quarantine in Tunisia for seven days which is not even a possibility,” Bariza said then.
