Confusion has trailed the decisions of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) board to discountenance the N3m fines slammed on Niger Tornadoes for breaching the league’s Framework & Rules in the course of their Matchday 23 game vs Enugu Rangers.

In a series of tweets on their official X handle @NigeriaPFL, the league body as part of measures to restore the lost glory of local football fined Niger Tornadoes N3 million for failing to provide adequate & effective security resulting in unauthorized persons gaining access to restricted areas amongst other infringements.

‘There was also encroachment onto the pitch by Tornadoes officials & unauthorized persons during the game vs Rangers on Sunday (March 3, 2024).

‘Niger Tornadoes are further charged for conducting themselves in a manner capable of bringing the game to disrepute.

“A fine of N1 million is imposed on Tornadoes for failing to provide adequate security.

“Tornadoes will pay another N1 million fine for encroachment onto the pitch during the match vs Rangers.

“A further N1 million fine is slammed on the Minna club for general misconduct.

“Niger Tornadoes have 48 hours from the date of this notice to appeal or accept these sanctions,” the statement said.

Few hours later, the league body retracted its statement on its official channel saying the summary jurisdiction notice did not emanate from its official channels. “The general public, football stakeholders, and particularly, Niger Tornadoes have been advised to discountenance a purported Summary Jurisdiction notice in circulation but which did not emanate from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) office.

“We have designated official channels of communication, and the said Summary Jurisdiction did not originate from any of the channels.

“While deliberations are ongoing on a number of reports received as per Matchday 23, outcomes will be made public through the official NPFL Media channels,” the statement concluded.
