The panel set up by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to receive petitions arising from the outcome of the state’s congress in Kano State has said it did not receive any petition throughout its three-day sitting in the state’s capital.

The panel, which sat at the party’s state headquarters, had earlier said it would only consider petitions filed from the congress conducted at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium which produced Abdullahi Abbas (a loyalist of the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje) as state chairman of the party.

Daily Trust reports that a group (G-7) led by a former governor of the state, Ibrahim Shekarau and some lawmakers held a parallel congress at Janguza area of the state which produced Ahmadu Haruna Danzago as state chairman.

But addressing journalists on Monday at the party headquarters, the five-man panel’s chairman, Dr Tony Macfoy, said the panel would submit its report to the national secretariat of the party, adding that since they did not receive any petition or complaint, it indicated that the congress held had no issue.

Asked if he felt all party members were given a fair ground to air their grievances based on the panel’s earlier statement that it will only consider the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium’s congress, Macfoy said those that did not participate in the congress in question do not have any ground upon which to base their grievance adding, however, the party’s secretariat was open to all and sundry.

Reacting, however, to the development, Danzago said since the panel had earlier said they were sent to sit on the congress held at the Indoor stadium, its sitting did not relate to the Janguza congress.

He said no complaints emanated from the Janguza congress that produced him as the party’s state chairman, adding “We are sure all that was done at our congress is correct. Therefore, we had no complaint arising from our congress.”

Meanwhile, members of the APC in Osun State who are loyal to the Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola under the auspices of The Osun Progressive (TOP) said lack of confidence in the state congress appeal committee made them shun it. 

The former Commissioner for Information in the state, Mr Lani Baderinwa who emerged as the factional state secretary, said submitting petitions to the appeal committee would amount to waste of time because of its bias. 

In      Akwa Ibom State, a stalwart of the party, Ambassador Moses Essien, has commended the leaders of the party in the state for working in the overall interest of the party in the just concluded congresses in the state.

He said that some of the prominent leaders of the party in Akwa Ibom State are already working to harmonize and position the APC for continuous growth, with the objective of forming the next government in Akwa Ibom.
