The federal government has warned that payments for zonal interventions and constituency projects will be made strictly on the basis of satisfactory performance to ensure value for money.
The Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Hon Zaphaniah Bitrus Jisalo, disclosed this in Abuja during a stakeholders’ engagement on the implementation of the 2025 Zonal Intervention and Constituency Projects.
Represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Onwusoro Maduka Ihemelandu, Jisalo said 110 projects across the six geopolitical zones were verified and certified as at the third quarter of 2025, with verification and certification exercises still ongoing.
He warned that non-compliance with project guidelines would attract sanctions, including prosecution by the EFCC, ICPC and other anti-corruption agencies.
He said the projects, ranging from school renovations, borehole installations, agricultural empowerment initiatives, medical outreach programmes to street lighting, had positively impacted communities.
The minister explained that constituency projects were domiciled in relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure proper expertise, quality execution and accountability.
He added that beneficiary communities would be more actively engaged to ensure project ownership and sustainability.

The Director of Programmes and Projects, Mr Yusuf Ahmadu, said the projects were designed to promote equity, balance and fairness in the distribution of federal resources.

Prof. Abdullahi Saleh Bashir of the University of Abuja said constituency projects contributed significantly to infrastructure development, job creation and improved access to essential services.
