Constitution review: N/Assembly receives states’ outcome today

The National Assembly had on October 28 transmitted the amended constitution to chairman of the Conference of State Houses of Assembly, Sam Ikon, for their counterparts’ final ratification.
Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Rep Zakari Mohammed, during an interaction with National Assembly correspondents yesterday, said they are expecting the final report of the constitution today.
The report is expected to show voting patterns from the 36 state assemblies on the proposed 71 amendments.
Two-third of the 36 state assemblies are needed to ensure the sailing through of the amended sections made by the federal lawmakers.
Major amendments amongst the 71 approved by the National Assembly include: stripping the executive of immunity, legislative immunity, local government autonomy, states creation, independent candidacy in elections, life pension for National Assembly heads, and clear roles for traditional rulers.
