The National Union of Civil Engineering Construction, Furniture and Wood Workers (NUCECFWW) has ‎ implored employers of labour in the country to adhere strictly to global best practices in the construction sector.
The advise came on the heels of what the union called “lukewarm attitude and recalcitrant posture” of the employers to the review of 2013 National Joint Industrial‎ Agreement on terms and conditions of service in the construction industry in Nigeria.
President-General of the union, Comrade Amechi Asugwuni said at a press conference that the consequence of the action of the employers will cause untold hardship to the members of the organization.
According to him, the Federation of Construction Industry must be properly guided by compliance to global best practices in industrial relations, quality of working conditions and regulations.
He said, “For crying out loud, the government as major employer of labour and despite the transitional administrative/economic challenges has retained staff and paid salaries and wages frequently.”
