Consulate, traders’ association seek expanded trade, training opportunities

The Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Lagos and the Made In China Goods Traders Association of Nigeria have expressed readiness to deepen collaboration in areas including commerce, training, scholarships, healthcare and charitable initiatives.

The understanding was reached during a visit by the Patron and National President of the association, Chief Olu Samuel Adigun, and members of the group to the Chinese Consul General in Lagos, Madam Yan Yuqing.

Speaking during the visit, Adigun said the association had been in existence for more than a decade, working to promote trade and strengthen business relations between Nigeria and China.

He noted that the association was interested in fostering closer engagement with the Chinese Consulate to enable it better support its members and contribute more effectively to bilateral trade activities.

Adigun appealed for greater opportunities for members of the association to participate in trade exhibitions and official events organised or supported by the consulate, including the Canton Fair and other major trade shows in China.

According to him, such opportunities would enhance members’ understanding of international trade practices and encourage them to serve as responsible ambassadors of Nigeria while complying with the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China.

He also requested consideration for members of the association in scholarship and training programmes in China aimed at knowledge sharing, skills development, cultural exchange and capacity building.

“We request the consulate to consider our members for scholarships and participation in China’s inbound training programmes to promote knowledge and skills development, cultural exchange, international exposure and capacity building,” he said.

In her response, Madam Yuqing welcomed the association’s proposals and assured the delegation that the consulate would consider the requests presented.

She reaffirmed the consulate’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote trade, cultural exchange and mutually beneficial cooperation between both countries.

The Consul General added that the consulate would explore areas of collaboration with the association in line with its objectives and areas of interest.
