The recent unholy pilgrimage of the leadership of the Adamawa State chapter of the APC to Abuja in the name of “consultations” is one of the most shameful acts to be carried out by any group of people with leadership responsibility. It is shameful because supposed party leaders are expected to be neutral and concerned only about the interest of the party. But here we are with supposed party leaders not only taking sides but openly taking the wrong side.  

Party leaders, who are happy to sell the interests of the opposition for some selfish and self-centred partisan interests. Party leaders who without shame chose to align with the failure of the party rather than its success. 

Let it be made clear that in the case decided by the Federal High Court on the October 14, 2022, there were three major parties to the suit. Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the person who took the matter to court; Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani, the winner of the annulled election; and the party, as the vehicle that will carry the candidate to victory. 

However, the party leadership came to Abuja to consult all persons relevant or irrelevant to the case without consulting the very person at the centre of the crisis, Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani. What does that indicate to any rational person? Clearly the party leadership had always resented the emergence of Senator Binani as the APC candidate.

While ordinary citizens are mourning the verdict of the court, the party leaders are celebrating it as a victory for their interest and the interest of their backers whose errands they carried out by putting booby traps in the process ab-initio. It’s indeed a big shame. 

It is common knowledge that the sponsors of the current shenanigans of the Adamawa State APC leadership would rather the party lose than Senator Binani wins. It is not the first time they are doing that. If they did today, it’s only a repeat performance. But this time around they will not succeed. God Almighty is a just God. Acts of wickedness cannot be successful all the time.  

As they conclude their “consultations” or is it conspiracy, let them know that the good people of Adamawa State are way ahead of them. They have taken sides with the truth regardless of the antics of the errand boys of negative interests.
