Disengaged staff of Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), Abuja have asked the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) to commit the Administrator/CEO, Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde and others to jail for failing to comply with a court order.
The staff also want the Chairman of DBI Board, Engr. Titi Omo-Ettu, and the institute’s secretary, Tonia Ansa-Otudor, to be jailed over disobedience to the judgment of Justice Zaynab M. Bashir of July 11, 2018 to show cause for their disengagement.
The ex-staff, Ahamefuna Agbo and 16 others, who until March 6, 2019, were allegedly unlawfully disengaged from the institute, a subsidiary of the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), decried the delay in implementing the order of the court.
They said following the court case and the withholding of their signatures to a new condition of service with the management of DBI, the appointments of 15 staff of the institute who refused to sign were terminated.
The suit was filed on November 25, 2014, at the NICN while Justice Zaynab Bashir in July 2018 granted the reliefs sought by the workers. Justice Bashir said that DBI could not dishonour the agreement it had with the workers, adding that all rights, privileges, emoluments, salaries pertaining to the staff condition of service of the NCC must be obeyed.
Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde, who was posted to DBI from the commission in 2015 with the sole mandate to resolve the lingering staff dispute, received Form 49 of the NICN on the 4th of February 2019 from the court, which is the notice from the court for him and others to show cause why order of committal to prison should not be made against them.
