Popular content creator and actor, Debo Adedayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has revealed his battle with financial challenges, disclosing that he fell victim to a scam and a failed investment in 2021, which left him in a debt of N500 million.

In a long post shared on his X handle on Thursday, the entertainer recounted how he lost all his savings during the period, forcing him to borrow heavily to meet his obligations.

“Sometime around 2021/2022, I was a victim of a scam and simultaneously a failed investment that cost me all I had saved at the time. It shook me deeply, but I told no one about it,” he wrote.

Mr Macaroni admitted that his financial recklessness and generosity further worsened his situation. He revealed that he resorted to borrowing from multiple sources to settle pending commitments and fulfil personal responsibilities, only to find himself trapped in a cycle of repaying debts with high interest.

“I make money in millions, so I never thought borrowing money to pay back with interest could ever be a problem. But I got too comfortable, and it took me a long time to realise that I was using the money I was earning to pay back interests. Also, my financial recklessness did not help,” he explained.

The actor described 2024 as a pivotal year in his career but also the most challenging, as he grappled with debts exceeding half a billion naira. He further expressed disappointment over betrayal by someone he considered “a friend and sister,” which added to his frustrations.

However, Mr Macaroni expressed gratitude to family and friends who stood by him during his trying times, stating that he now “feels better than I have felt in the last 3 years!”

He also cautioned his followers against borrowing money, urging them to be financially responsible. “Please don’t borrow money! But if you must, please be responsible,” he advised.
