 Al-Amin had said many contractors with the FHA were fraudulent, hence it has been difficult to sell the houses they built and pay the money the organisations has been owing them.
 The contractors under the aegis of Federal Housing Authority Contractors Union described Al-Amin’s statement as having  no truth because all the contracts to build houses for the authority passed due process before being given out, adding that with this process it was very difficult for any contractor to collaborate with anybody to inflate the contracts values.
 In a statement jointly signed by the union’s chairman and vice chairman, Innocent Odika and Mohammed Mudashiru Lawal respectively, they said Al-Amin’s statement is coming at a time when the authority is heavily indebted to many contractors and challenged him to disclose the names of those fraudulent contractors and their collaborators saying otherwise he should stop blackmailing the contractors and find a way of paying them what the authority owes.
 “We wonder why this statement is coming out at this time when we are pressing hard to demand for our payment of over N750 million the authority owed us and we see this as a flimsy excuse to continue to delay our payment,” they said.
The union said it considered it necessary to make a response to the allegation by Prof. Al-Amin because their integrity and credibility are at stake, and they cannot accept anyone coming up with a sweeping statement that many of them are fraudulent in their dealings.
