Controversy has continued to trail the alleged abuse of seven female pupils by the principal of Hassanat Islamic College, located in Tanke, Ilorin, Kwara State.

There have been reports that the acting principal simply identified as Prosper had since gone into hiding over the incident and begged for forgiveness.

The report also listed some names of the alleged pupils reportedly violated by the fleeing principal.

When City & Crime visited the school on Thursday, it was observed that the facility was sealed by the state government but officials of the State Ministry of Education were there to reopen it following a protest by the school management before our reporter left on Thursday evening.

A female staff, who spoke on the issue on condition of anonymity, said the earlier report was largely fabricated and surprising.

According to her, although the principal had tendered a hand written resignation letter, most of the names mentioned in the media did not in existence and about two of them that were there denied there was never anything like that.

The most annoying thing is that nobody was contacted from the school over the report, she added.

She said before now, the acting principal, whose full name she gave as Samuel Prosper, had complained the he was being threatened by some people.

“Some people have queried why will a Christian be heading an Islamic private school. The former principal was a female who left after securing a job in Abuja.

“As the next senior person with the requisite qualifications, he was told to be acting before we get a replacement. But along the line, the proprietor of the school died and it became somehow complicated.

“This was the situation before the sudden news,’’ the female teacher said.

A resident of the street, whose house is behind the school, Mrs Mojirayo, said, “We have not heard anything of such here until this morning.”

Also, when contacted, the Kwara State police spokesman, Ajayi Okasanmi, said he never told anybody that the DPO told him that two children made statements at the station.

“What I said when I was contacted was that there was no case of such reported,” he added.

The Public Relations Officer of the ministry of education, Peter Amogbonjaye, said he was not authorized to make any official comments on the issue yet.
