A smoothie is a thick beverages made from blended raw fruits and vegetables often with ingredients such as waters, ice, dairy product and sweeteners.
Fruit smoothie can be made from various ingredients, but most smoothies will contain the same basic ingredients. The first ingredient may include some type of fruit juice or liquid such as orange juice, pineapple juice, milk or soy milk.
A blend of fresh or frozen fruit can be added with bananas, pineapples and berries being the most popular choices. Other common ingredients include yoghurt, ice cream for texture and taste.
Fruit smoothies have several benefits that promote a balanced, healthy diet. Numerous vitamins and minerals are found naturally in the fruit juice and fresh fruit while additional nutrients can be added to the smoothie. Vitamin C and calcium are two of the most common nutrients in fruit smoothies. Creating your own fruit smoothie gives you the ability to control the overall nutrition including calories, sugar and vitamins while creating a personalized flavor.
Strawberry and banana smoothie
INGREDIENTS:
1. 250g strawberries
2. 1 medium banana. Peaked and roughly chopped
3. 300ml of 1% low fat milk
4. 150ml natural yoghurt
5. 15ml spoon clear honey
DIRECTIONS:
1. Place all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth
2. Adjust the sweetness according to taste and pour into serving glasses.
