President of COREN Engineer Kashim Ali stated this at a media briefing on the outcome of the Council’s 138th meeting.
He said that the council has reached a unanimous decision to harmonize its registration procedure for engineering personnel with those of the Professional Associations will now handle the screening of prospective registrants, with COREN monitoring and registering them after the screening exercise, adding all existing applications within the COREN registry will however be cleared within six months.
Engineer Kashim noted that the Engineering Regulation Monitoring (ERM) has become more vibrant nationwide, just as more Inspectorates are being launched while urging all ERM Inspectors to be proactive and respond promptly to cases of structural failure and report incidences as soon as they occur.
He said: “In furtherance of its statutory duties, council has established an investigating panel and registered Engineers`Disciplinary Tribunal. The Investigating Panel carries out preliminary investigation into any case of alleged unprofessional conduct to establish prima facie and thereafter send this case to the tribunal. The tribunal will then try any such registered engineering personnel. A sentence is passed and it is gazette for enforcement in all parts of Nigeria.
