Coronavirus and need for mass rural mobilisation

It is worrisome, the rate at which the COVID-19 pandemic is ravaging the country. However, the irony is that, some typical rural dwellers are yet to understand or even agree that, the pandemic exist with its attendant dangers to humanity.

If civilized societies such as Britain, USA, France, Italy, Spain etc and cities such as Lagos, Kano and Abuja could not escape the wrath of COVID-19, one could imagine the damage the pandemic can cause among the uncivilised rural poor in Nigeria.

Therefore, there is need for more awareness campaigns in rural areas through radio and collaboration with religious leaders, local elites and community leaders. This is because, very few rural dwellers have access to TV station, GSM and very few could also read, write or speak English language.

To most rural dwellers, there is nothing to compare with radio in terms of wider coverage and the traditional institutions are still highly valued in villages and hamlets.

May Allah Ta’ala help Nigeria to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic (Amin).
