Coronavirus: ‘Medical laboratory scientists are working behind the scenes’

Medical Laboratory scientists are working behind the scene to detect and respond to coronavirus disease COVID-19) in the country.

Chairman, Steering Board of the West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Science (WAPCMLS) Dr. Godswill  Okara made the disclosure while fielding questions from newsmen in Abuja.

He said Nigeria had capacity and laboratory facilities to detect and contain the virus, adding that some regional laboratories have been put on red alert.

He said: “Medical Laboratory scientists are fully involved and working behind the scene in the various laboratories like it happened in Lagos in 2014. It was in the research labs of Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH ) and Redeemers’ University, that the Ebola virus was identified and diagnosed. That rapid identification and diagnosis made all the difference”.
