Corporal remanded for shooting civilian at bar

A Gombe State High Court has ordered a police corporal to be remanded in prison custody over alleged killing of a civilian at a beer parlour in Gombe metropolis.

 Corporal Peter Ibrahim, attached to Gombe State Police Command, is standing trial before Justice Abubakar Jauro on a one-count charge of culpable homicide, contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code Law.

 The prosecuting counsel, Barrister Halima Yusuf Atiku, said the accused person had on December 11, 2015 went to a beer parlour popularly known as ‘Gidan Zana,’ in Gombe metropolis, where he allegedly shot one Baka Bitran Boyi with an AK47 rifle who died on the spot.

 The accused person pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

 Justice Jauro thereafter directed that the accused be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case to October 17 for hearing.
