Exhibiting the drone at the closing ceremony of the orientation programme at the NYSC camp, Ede, who graduated from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, said he needed encouragement to further develop the technology.
Speaking on his invention, Olaolu, who read Computer Engineering, explained that the drone could fly as high as 500 meters, and carries a surveillance camera that can stay in the air for as much as 10 minutes. It can also record video while in the sky. Olaolu flew the drone with the use of a remote control to the admiration of all corps members, NYSC officials, government functionaries and other guests.
Commending the corps member for the invention, Governor Rauf Aregbesola promised to encourage him. While charging all the corps members deployed to the state to serve with dedication, Aregbesola maintained that the NYSC was a home-grown solution to the peculiar challenges facing the country.
“Our youths are our future leaders and an important bridge between today and tomorrow. It makes eminent sense therefore to use them as a crucial force of socio-political ligature in order to restore a fresh breath of national unity to the nation,” Ogbeni Aregbesola said.
The governor urged the corps members to strive hard to be good ambassadors of the NYSC by upholding the objectives of the corps and helping it sustain the mission for which the scheme was founded.
