A corps member, Okolie Friday, has donated a borehole, an overhead tank stand and a water tank to Dafara, a community in Kuje Area Council, Abuja.
The Batch ‘A’ corps member, a graduate of Political Science from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and serving with the Nigeria Air Force, also provided the community with a generator to power the equipment.
Speaking during the commissioning, Okolie said the project, the first of its kind by a corps member in the community, was informed by a recent medical outreach by his colleagues to the community which exposed their lack of portable drinking water.
He said the major source of water supply of the community was local wells and streams which have led to the death of many of them through polio, cholera, fever and other water related diseases.
Okolie explained that the project was made possible through the various contributions of spirited Nigerians, urging the beneficiaries to ensure its durability through careful management and regular maintenance.
Expressing appreciation to the NYSC for creating the platform for the achievement of the project, the corps member challenged his colleagues to take advantage of the opportunity to initiate positive ideas geared towards impacting and contributing to the society.
