Miss Stella Samuel donated the water facility, which was inaugurated by the state commissioner of Women Affairs, Mrs. Eunice Kigbu at the settlement, north of Lafia, last week.
Dungun Kigbu has a population of over 2,000 people, according to village leaders.
Miss Samuel is a 2012 holder of LLB from University of Jos, and was called to the Bar in 2013. She is serving at the state Ministry of Justice Lafia.
Stella appealed to the state government to convert the facility from a hand pump to a solar powered borehole for the convenience of the beneficiaries as well as for the durability of the facility.
Stella, who is a Batch C corps member, said during the inauguration of the facility that she discovered the community during her rural evangelical outreach programme organized by the Nigerian Christian Corpers Fellowship (NCCF) in the area.
She said: “During my evangelical outreach programme, I observed that there was no potable water in the community and its environs which has been in existence for over hundred years.  The only source of water is a well which is not dependable due to seasonal effect of drought, pollution and is prone to water borne diseases.”
According to her, “a community leader, Solomon Dominic Anzaku, had told me during the evangelization visit that the community has been suffering from typhoid fever, cholera and other water borne related diseases due to lack of clean potable source of water.”
The corps member added that she was moved with compassion at the community’s plight and thought it pertinent to, in addition to the good news of the gospel which she brought to them, make frantic efforts to provide them with potable water which will be safe for drinking and also readily available at all seasons.
The permanent secretary in the state ministry of agriculture and water resources, Naphtali Dako, challenged other corps members to emulate the initiative of the donor (Stella) in order to assist in developing communities with similar pathetic situations.
Dako, however, charged the benefiting community to strive towards evolving a maintenance culture in order to guarantee the durability of the facility for the benefit of unborn generations of their community.
