The body of an unidentified man, believed to be a cyclist, was discovered under a bridge at Giri junction along the Zuba-Gwagwalada-Lokoja highway.

Sources in the area reported that the corpse was found around 6 am on Wednesday with severe injuries to the head and neck.

Mrs. Gladys Habila, a resident who owns a shop nearby, said she found the body while opening her store.  She suspects the deceased was stabbed by hoodlums who then stole his motorcycle.

The discovery, she said, attracted the attention of motorists and travellers waiting for transport under the bridge.

Another local, Segun Ajayi, a motorist, also believes the victim was a commercial cyclist.

He recalled a similar incident just last month where an “okada” rider was fatally stabbed under the same bridge during an attack, and his motorcycle was stolen.

Yakubu Suleiman, from the Environmental and Sanitation department of Gwagwalada Area Council, confirmed the discovery and noted the deep cuts on the man’s head and neck, suggesting he was an “okada” rider who had been attacked.

He said the body had since been evacuated and deposited at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital morgue in Gwagwalada.

A police source, who wished to remain anonymous, also confirmed the discovery, saying investigation into the incident is ongoing.
