Skibo Global FC have emerged winners of the inaugural Pastor Hilary Chukwuma annual football tournament in Kuje.
In the final play at the Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja, Skibo Global FC edged Graceland FC 4-3 on penalties after a tense 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Organisers said the tournament was more than football—it was a moment of hope, unity, and emotional release.
Ten teams, comprising inmates and correctional officers, competed in the tournament designed to heal minds, rebuild confidence, and encourage positive living.
The Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service, FCT Command, Christopher Peter Jen, said sports play a critical role in correcting behaviour and preparing inmates for life beyond prison walls.
“This is proof that our custodial centres can also be centres of reform, discovery, and second chances,” he said.
The sponsor, Pastor Hillary Chukwuma, explained that the tournament was inspired by faith and a passion for youth and inmate transformation.
“Freedom is priceless. My message to young people is to choose the right path while they still have that freedom,” he said.
Dignitaries at the final include Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, and Olisa Metuh, who witnessed the final.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of trophies, and medals.
