Adamawa Government has established anti-corruption units in Ministries, Departments and Parastatals (MDAs)
in line with its commitment to zero tolerance to corruption in the civil service.

The state’s Head of Service, Dr Amos Edgar, disclosed this on Thursday when he declared open dialogue with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and media organisations in Yola.

Adamawa Government is leading a dialogue with CSOs and media organisations on the implementation of Adamawa State Anti-Corruption Strategy’s (ADSACS) and Justice Sector Reform (JSR) action plans.

The dialogue was organised under the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) programme supported by European Union through the British Council.

Edgar, who was represented by a Permanent Secretary in his office, Mr Ibrahim Emmanuel, said that corruption as a monster needed to be fought through united front involving government, the public and stakeholders like the CSOs and media.

He described the dialogue as a welcome development that would go a long way in boosting the fight against corruption in the state.

The Coordinator of RoLAC in the state, Mrs Hapsatu Abdullahi, said that the dialogue between the state actors and CSOs/media was to find ways to speed up the implementation of ADSACS and JSR.

She said “it may interest you to recall that the Adamawa Government with support from European Union funded Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption programme.

“The programme is to strengthen the capacities of government institutions and CSOs to engage in public dialogue and criminal justice and anti-corruption policies and issues.”

According to her, the state government developed and validated the ADSACS to serve as mechanism for coordinating and harmonising its efforts toward a more sustainable, transparent and accountable governance.

The Consultant for the programme, Dr Ada Ezeh, who lauded the effort of Adamawa Government, said that the implementation of the programme would help in the fight against corruption and ensure speedy dispensation of Justice.

Ezeh urged relevant stakeholders to be committed to enable the anti corruption and Justice Sector Reform to succeed. (NAN)
