The Director of DEC International School in Kaduna, Abduljelil Suleiman, has blamed the decay in the Nigerian education sector on corruption and neglect by previous governments.
In his remarks at the speech and prize giving day of the school, he said that due to neglect by the past administrations, educational institutions in the country have witnessed crises ranging from cultism, lecturers strike actions and students’ protests among others which, he said, have resulted in prolonged academic years and low performance on the part of the students.
“During those periods, Nigerian students who were revered in the academic sector were dropped to the back while well to do Nigerians started rushing to countries like Malaysia and Ghana to seek for education that was better and available there,” he said.
While calling on the government to handle the education sector seriously so as to restore the country’s lost glory, Suleiman gave assurance of his school’s readiness to partner with government in the area of providing quality education to Nigerian children.
He also advised the graduating students to uphold the teachings and discipline they received from the school, urging them not to derail but remain good ambassadors of Nigeria wherever they go.
