The BMW X1 is the world’s first premium Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) in the compact segment.
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, Managing Director of the company, Mr. Josiah Samuel, said the launch of the new model represents the company’s new benchmark for innovative, customer-oriented thinking, technological leadership and automotive excellence.
He said BMWX1 impresses with its sporty handling, versatile interior and unrivalled efficiency, adding that it achieves average fuel consumption of 5.2 litres/100 km in the European Union test cycle.
According to him, due to its X1’s outstanding safety standards also earned it the highest Euro New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) crash test rating of 5 stars.
The test scenario covers accident types such as the head-on collision, side crash and side impact against a steel post.
Giving insights into the features of the new model, Samuel said, “BMW X1 features the world’s first four-cylinder diesel engine with variable Twin Turbo. It represents a young lifestyle in an urban living world. It meets the requirements of a young/young-at-heart target group which does not want to compromise on agility or versatility.
“Behind BMW Efficient Dynamics lies a package of intelligent features which considerably reduce emissions and improve fuel consumption, at the same time, boosting performance. They ensure that the BMW X1 sets new standards in terms of the efficiency and economy of its engine thanks to its Brake Energy Regeneration, six-speed automatic transmission, Auto Start Stop function (for manual transmission) and a host of intelligent technological modifications.
“It comes with the latest generation of BMW iDrive functions, including the
6.5inch Business or 8.8inch Professional navigation systems. The iDrive system has been updated to update easy access to all telecommunication, audio and entertainment functions.”
According to him, the BMW X1 was European winner in the assessment class of SUVs and four-wheel drive vehicles.
He said in the Europe-wide voting, the BMW X1 and the concept car BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics were able to assert themselves in each of their vehicle categories.
“This once again confirms the fascination and quality of BMW design, which automatically expresses the brand-typical driving pleasure, contributing decisively towards the success of current models in all vehicle segments,” Samuel expressed, adding, “Public enthusiasm for the current design of BMW automobiles fired within the framework of the Auto Bild Design Award corresponds to a high degree with the judgment made by international experts.”
Efficient Dynamics is not a first-time winner. Its vanguard design authentically visualizing trend-setting drive technology was winner of the Louis vuitton Classic Award at the beginning of 2010.
