 Prof. Solarin who made this announcement at the closing ceremony of the Pan African Mathematics Olympiad (PAMO) and the opening ceremony of the Pan African Congress of Mathematicians (PACOM), said Miss Sandambra Dorcas from Burkina Faso emerged second while Miss Odoh Blessing from Nigeria had the third position.                       
Crowning the African Mathematics Queen, Nigeria’s First Lady Dame Patience Goodluck Jonathan, said she loves mathematics as a subject so much that she studied it in the university and became a mathematics teacher after graduation.  She therefore urged the National Mathematics Centre to have creative programmes to encourage the girl child to have a passion for the subject.
