The Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Mr Abdullahi Sabo, has appealed to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to fix the bad roads and deteriorating infrastructure in the area for the development of council.

Sabo made the appeal on Monday when the FCT Minister of State, Dr Ramatu Tijjani, arrived for an inspection tour of some FCTA ongoing and abandoned projects in the council area.

“Kuje Area Council remains one of the largest in the FCT in terms of land mass and has one of the most difficult terrains to navigate due to lack of access roads and bridges to mention but a few.

“Barely six months after taking oath of office, the challenges are overwhelming and expectations from the electorate are very high.

“We are also asking for further collaboration with FCTA to improve the Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) with emphasis on FCT-IRS so as to augment the federation allocation.

“As the Food Basket of the FCT, we are therefore appealing to the Minister and FCTA, to provide good roads and fix deteriorating infrastructure in the Area Council to enable us feed the entire people of the FCT,” he said.

He described the condition of the roads in the satellite towns in the FCT as embarrassing as they did not befit a territory created to be a model for the country.

Reacting, the FCT Minister of State, Dr Ramatu, assured the people of Kuje that plans are underway by the minister of the FCT, to ensure that all abandoned projects are completed.

She also assured that plans have been concluded to ensure that women and youths in the area are adequately empowered for self-reliance.

Some of the abandoned projects inspected by the FCT Minister of State included, Kuje Township Stadium, Kuje-Gwagwalada road, Kuje Forest Reserve, Chibiri Primary Healthcare Clinic and Kuje Chief’s Palace.

Many roads within Kuje and some area councils have become impassable with some portions washed away by erosion or damaged over time. (NAN)
