Dr Okojie, who stated this at the 5th induction of certified librarians held recently in Abuja, said presently Nigeria has no policy in place for its library services sector, hence the need for a well crafted policy that will provide a framework for the coordinated and strategic development of libraries in the country.
“We are looking ahead and we have grand plans to develop a National Policy for Library Services in Nigeria,” she said.
She said the council has inducted 877 librarians this year bringing the number of registered librarians to 4,141.
She charged the inductees to live up to expectations through provision of quick, current and quality information, useful in addressing the challenges facing the country.
Minister of State for Education, Barrister Nyesom Wike, said the federal government has between 2010 and 2013, spent the sum of N124 billion on the provision of infrastructure and facilities to primary and junior secondary schools nationwide.
