Ahead of the February 21, 2026 chairmanship election in the FCT, the Ona of Abaji and chairman of the FCT council of chiefs, Alhaji Adamu Baba Yunusa, on Wednesday, committed leaders and executives of three major political parties to sign a peace accord at his palace.

Abuja Metro learnt that the peace accord was at the instance of the ongoing provocative and personal attacks on Facebook by supporters of the three major chairmanship candidates, especially the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the area.

Speaking during the signing of the peace accord, which also had representatives of various security operatives in attendance, the monarch noted that the signing of the peace accord was necessary to ensure peace before, during, and after the election.

He said the palace was disturbed by the ongoing social media attacks by the supporters of the two major political parties, APC and YPP, which he said may degenerate into political upheaval if measures are not taken.

The monarch emphasised the need for the party leaders and executives to caution their supporters against provocative comments against each other, which he said may cause political tension in the area.

He, however, enjoined supporters of the three major political parties, APC, YPP, and PDP, to always exercise restraint, especially when posting comments on social media.

The representatives of the various security operatives were present when leaders and party executives signed the accord at the monarch’s palace.
