National Examination Council (NECO) is expected to release the results of the National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) to the Federal Ministry of Education today,’ a source has said.
The exam was written by pupils seeking admission in unity colleges across the country.
The source said “the results are ready and would be released to the ministry tomorrow (today) for selection. But for the Workers’ Day, the results would have been released today (yesterday).”
Meanwhile, NECO Acting Registrar, Abubakar Gana, who monitored the exam on Saturday in Abuja, together with the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, said 75,635 candidates wrote the NCEE in 457 centres, including one centre in Porto Novo, Benin Republic.
Gana had said the results would be released yesterday, and therefore, urged parents to check NECO’s website for results.
Lagos State had the highest number of registered candidates, with 23,459, while Zamfara had the lowest with 59 candidates.
“The results are expected to be released by NECO to the ministry, after which NECO will be directed to release them to the public after the selection exercise.
“Candidates are to check the status of their admission both at the various unity colleges and online via NECO’s website: www.neco.gov.ng as soon as the release of the results is announced,” the ministry added in a statement.
The minister who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Sonny Echono, said 104 unity colleges were being refurbished and that the rehabilitation exercise included replacement of broken toilets, ceilings, building additional classrooms and the renovation of existing ones.
The minister said the renovation, directed by President Muhammadu Buhari, was meant to expand access to education in the country, and added that about 25,000 new students would be given admission into the colleges.
He said, “We are recruiting additional teachers for the unity schools as we speak. Both the regularisation of PTA teachers and new recruitments are ongoing at the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) as we speak and they will come in early enough for them to be inducted, trained, given some kind of preparation ahead of the opening of the first term.”
