Authorities of the Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory yesterday warned health personnel working in the various Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the council not to attempt diverting COVID-19 Personal Protective Equipment donated to their facilities by different organisations.

The Director of Primary Health Care Centres, Dr Sunday Goji, stated this in Abuja yesterday when he led 85 PHCs to receive Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits worth N12 million from Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN), a Non-Government Organisation.

Goji said, “We have checks and balances, these things will be taken stock of, and we have a supervisory person we carry to the facility, to make sure that these items are there and we want to see the usage.

“For example, if I go to a facility tomorrow, and I know you were given a carton of facemasks and you say the facemasks are no longer there, I know how many people are working in that facility, so it is easy to trace.”

Speaking to journalists during the distribution exercise, the Executive Director of the PPFN, Dr Okai Aku, said the distribution was part of the group’s Accelerating Equitable Access, Acceptance, and uptake of COVID-19 Vaccine (ACCESS) Project, funded by Pathfinder International and Macarthur Foundation.

According to him, 35 facilities in Kano will benefit from it; while 25 each from the FCT and Kaduna will also be supported, adding that the exercise was to encourage more people to get the COVID-19 vaccine, as well as protect health workers from contracting the virus.
