The military has urged for better understanding and support from the media in the fight against insurgency.

The Director Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade made this known on a visit to Media Trust headquarters in Abuja.

He insisted the media desist from political reportage capable of demoralizing and denigrating the integrity of the military.

General Olukolade urged the media for cooperation and understanding in galvanizing efforts towards an end to insurgency in the country.

He asked the media to count the military out of politics, maintaining that any denigration of the army will negatively affect the morale of the troops and the nation’s image.

“Our appeal is let’s preserve the military from political assessment. The achievement of the military in the terror war is being reversed by the scale of criticism, denigration and demystification of the military,” he said.

While responding, the Editor-in-Chief of Media Trust, Malam Mannir Dan-Ali assured the military of the continued sense of responsibility by the newspaper.

He called on the military not to allow itself to be dragged into politics, “We are not happy with the way military is being dragged into politics… It’s a very dangerous thing. That message should sink in.”
