A middle aged woman who identified herself as Rahmatu and her husband have been arrested by the police for battering a five-year-old girl living with them for soiling her bed.

Daily Trust gathered that the girl (names withheld) had defecated on her bed after complaining of running stomach and was given three tablets of Flagyl by her aunty who was said to be a nurse with a private hospital.

It was further gathered that the girl was some time ago brought to Kaduna from Maiduguri by Rahmatu who inflicted physical injuries on her at their residence in Ungwar Dosa in Kaduna.

It was also gathered that it took the intervention of a non-governmental organization, Umukhail Foundation, which was alerted by a neighbour in the community to rescue the girl.

Upon reporting the case to the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, the Commissioner of Women Affairs, Hajiya Hafsat Baba, told our reporter that the girl had been treated at Barau Dikko Specialist Hospital and kept in safe custody until her father came from Maiduguri.

She said she will ensure the victim got justice so as to serve as deterrent to others and also to let the people know that the Child Protection Law in Kaduna State is in force and implementation has commenced.
