The Senior District Court III in Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Thursday restrained the embattled Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Aliyu Bello, from parading himself as a member or performing any official function as party chairman pending the determination of a case filed against him by members of his ward.
The case, filed by the Chairman of the APC in Gayam Ward, Lafia Local Government Area, Ibrahim Iliyasu, followed Bello’s refusal to vacate office after his suspension by ward executives over alleged anti-party activities.
According to court documents obtained by Daily Trust, the matter is before His Worship, Hon. Abdullahi M. Lanze, under motion number SDC3/M1122/2025.
The court order, dated 3rd July 2025, reads in part: “Upon consideration of the motion ex parte dated 2nd July 2025 and filed on 3rd July 2025 by Z.Y. Suleiman Turaki Esq., counsel to the applicant, supported by a 12-paragraph affidavit deposed to by Blessing Emmanuel Ayaka, a litigation secretary with J.J. Gbaja and Associate, Lafia, with attached exhibits…
“It is hereby ordered as follows: An order of this Honourable Court is granted restraining the respondent (Hon. Aliyu Bello), whether by himself, his agents, privies, supporters, or any person acting on his behalf, from further parading himself, issuing statements, carrying out functions, or acting in any capacity whatsoever—through the media or otherwise—as a member or chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”
Earlier on Tuesday, APC leaders in Gayam Ward, led by Ibrahim Iliyasu, had at a press conference in Lafia announced Bello’s suspension, citing anti-party activities and conduct in breach of Article 21 of the APC Constitution (as amended).
“We, the undersigned executive members of the All Progressives Congress, Gayam Ward in Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, hereby write to formally suspend you, Hon. Aliyu Bello, from the party with immediate effect,” the ward executives declared.
“This decision arises as a result of our investigation of complaints regarding your anti-party activities, which contravene Article 21 of the APC Constitution, outlining expected conduct and disciplinary measures for members,” they added.
The executives further accused Bello of embarrassing the party and undermining its collective credibility.
However, the crisis deepened on Wednesday when a parallel group within the Gayam Ward APC, led by Assistant Secretary Adamu Bawa, disowned the suspension.
Bawa claimed the action was taken without due consultation, lacked a quorum, and did not have the approval of the full Ward Executive Committee.
