A Federal High Court in Abuja has invited the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) to examine the health condition of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who is facing charges of terrorism.
Justice James Omotosho, on Friday, directed that the NMA should nominate about eight or 10 members with expertise in cardiology and neurology, and to conclude the check within eight days.
The judge mandated the medical team to visit and assess the medical facility at the Department of State Services (DSS) to ascertain its capacity to continue to handle Kanu’s health condition.
The judge then proceeded into determining Kanu’s application of no case submission.

Earlier, Kanu’s legal team led by Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN) had submitted a medical report by Professor Martin Aghaji, which approved Kanu’s transfer to the National Hospital, Abuja, for treatment over a heart-related ailment, and a lack of potassium.
However, the DSS medical team, led by Dr Mohammed Nasir, insisted that the earlier report was exaggerated as it had the facility to manage Kanu’s health condition.
Similarly, DSS lead counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN) had asked the court to decline the request to transfer Kanu to the National Hospital for urgent medical attention.
