A Kano State High Court has discharged and acquitted one Fatima Dahiru, who was standing trial over the alleged murder of her co-wife, Wasila Yunusa, following a domestic dispute between them.
During the trial, the prosecution, led by Barrister Lamido Abba Soron Dinki, called seven witnesses in an attempt to substantiate the charge.
After the prosecution closed its case, counsel to the defence, Barrister Habibu Abdullahi, raised objections to the credibility and sufficiency of the evidence presented before the court.
In her judgment, the presiding judge reviewed the testimonies and proceedings from previous sittings and held that the prosecution failed to establish a case strong enough to warrant a conviction. The court therefore discharged and acquitted the accused.
Reacting to the verdict, M.K. Adam, a brother of the deceased and one of the complainants, told journalists that the family was dissatisfied with the judgment and would file an appeal.
