An Ile-Tuntun customary court in Ibadan has dissolved a 22-year-old marriage between Aderemi Ayinde and his wife, Jelilat, over infidelity allegations.

The petitioner, Ayinde, told the court that his wife had stopped heeding his instructions, but would rather heed those of a man he had introduced to him as her boss but was allegedly her boyfriend. He said he didn’t know where his wife was working but was aware she was always discussing with a man on phone every night without any fear of his presence beside her.

According to Ayinde, there was a day he caught his wife and the “so-called boss” red- handed openly discussing their love affair. “I am not secure in my house anymore,” he told the court. 

When he made an attempt to talk to the man she called her boss on phone, the petitioner said, she snatched the phone from him and ensured she didn’t allow that to happen. 

Ayinde consequently sought for the dissolution of the marriage and custody of the children in the marriage.  Jelilat agreed on the dissolution of the marriage, alleging that her husband was planning to use her for rituals. 

The president of the court, Chief Henry Agbaje, granted the divorce plea and gave the custody of the children to their mother. 

Agbaje ordered the petitioner to be paying N10,000 monthly through the court as feeding allowance to the children and be responsible for their education and welfare.
