Court dissolves marriage over absentee Indian hubby

A Kano State Sharia court sitting in Kofar Kudu has dissolved a 19-year-old marriage over the disappearance of the Indian husband, Khalid Abubakar.

The wife, Samira Usman, filed the case and pleaded with the court to dissolve her marriage as her husband had disappeared for nine years.

Samira told the court that she met Khalid Abubakar in Saudi Arabia 19 years ago and that they got married and returned to Nigeria.

She said that after getting four kids with him, he travelled to India to see his relatives with the agreement that he would come back within a few days.

But that nine years later, her husband was yet to come back and that she couldn’t reach him even on the phone, adding that all processes had been followed to trace his whereabouts to no avail.

Delivering judgment, the Judge, Malam Isa Rabiu Kademi Gaya, dissolved the marriage.
